Westport is located 13 spectacular miles north of Fort Bragg. This tiny town once had a thriving population of over 20,000 people when "Lumber was King" and the North Coast was home to fishermen and loggers. Those seeking the quiet country life, sweeping ocean vistas, and a strong community spirit migrate here. Through the years the small cottages have been restored by those hearty souls who trade the twenty-six mile roundtrip to "town" for the rugged individualism which marks the Westport lifestyle.

North Coasters and tourists flock here for the annual chicken barbeque and abalone feeds that benefit the local volunteer fire department. About three miles north of town are Westport Estates, a subdivision of 20 acre parcels, many with ocean views and deep forest canyons.

Several State and private campgrounds, two inns, grocery and bait store, and post office serve the tiny village and travelers. Highway One turns inland here and winds past the vanished town of Rockport, jumping-off spot for the famed Lost Coast, then through the forest to Legett where it connects with Highway 101 toward Eureka.
